Marvo
studied in London at the LCP, this was for art & design, during this time,
he teamed up with fellow graffiti artists and created various images in and
around the London underpasses around the Elephant & Castle.
“I have always been into
art, I love the works of Rothko and Gormley and of course other street artists
such as French stencil and paste up artist Blek Le Rat and Montreal’s original
street artist Roadsworth”.
His
music taste was and still is hip hop and break beat, both still play a big part
in his life.
“I have to have music when
I paint or else I feel as empty as a can I've just used.”
Marvo has always tried to be as creative as possible,
growing from vibrant graffiti, fly tagging, magnetic tagging and also poster
art, but he loves to stencil. Most stencil artists compose their cut-outs very
quickly, this results in chunky images, the stencils are made for ‘quickness’,
but as Marvo is now a ‘good boy’, his stencils have more detail in them, “this
takes time as some stencils are quite tricky, the bigger stencils are very
enjoyable to create, very time consuming, and to see the end product is like
undoing a gift on your birthday.”
Marvo works with aerosol, marker and acrylic, the designs
are either simple, political or just comical, either way, you can say a lot
with just images and no text, its not a rule he sticks with, but sometimes less
is more.
Marvo is 39 and lives in Reading, Berkshire, and is married
to Mrs. Marvo and has a son who will looks at his daddy and wishes he would get
a proper job someday.
“When I got
caught doing a piece in London in 87, our cans got confiscated, as we walked
away, we heard the underground attendant shaking and spraying a face on the
wall we were working on.....who knows, we may of recruited a new trooper!"
